Introduction
Hi! I'm Laura. I am from the Boston area, but spent the last 5 years in Minnesota attending Carleton College. Now I'm back, more aware of oppression and privilege than I was in high school, and want to meet other people who care.
(Your "introduction" will be visible on the homepage.) Use this space to provide links or more info: What social justice issues do you care deeply about? Do you work with any organizations or specific communities? What do you do for FUN? Thanks!
What I Care About (In alphabetical order): Ableism, animal rights, biphobia, cissexism, classism, colonialism, economic justice, elitism, the environment, fat shaming, homophobia, imperialism, intersectionality, patriarchy, racial justice, racism, sexual assault/violence, transphobia, U.S.-centrism, veganism, white privilege. Hopefully I didn't forget any!
If I had to choose the social justice issues I care most deeply about, I would say intersectionality and ending transphobia, in that order. But I know we can't end one type of oppression without ending all of them, so.
What I Do For Fun: read (fantasy, YA, scifi, historical fiction), eat (I'm vegan), hang out with friends (we usually grab a beer somewhere), dance around in my room, play guitar, learn about things (anything and everything)
How did you hear about Socializing for Justice? Please be specific so we know which websites, listserves or people to thank.
Someone in a different MeetUp group was part of it.
